Browsing through this index of this weeks Science, not only did I come across some articles useful for my revision (on beta-barrels and porins) but I noticed how there was an abundance of articles on both malaria and lasers. Of course, it’s the 50th anniversary of the laser this week, so that was no surprise. PhD (Piled Higher and Deeper) comics has even written a brilliant “Ode to the Laser”. And of course, malaria (or more precisely the research into malaria) is all the rage these days. Indeed, malaria has always been the disease without a cure that has fascinated me the most.
So when I was browsing TED talks and came across this talk, how could I resist? Read more about Nathan Myhrvold who is really a fascinating character and watch a previous talk by him here (about penguin shit, Easter island and more).
I’ll take advantage of the new wealth of information on malaria and blog a bit about it soon.
